Jonathan’s Day – promoted as a day of adventure and acceptance is in its second year. Named after 12 years old Jonathan Mizrachi, an autistic boy from South Florida, son of CBS4 employee Jason Mizrachi, it is an event to support autistic children and their families.
This event is a part of the Unique Abilities Fair at Palmetto Bay, in association with Nova Southeastern University’s “Center for Autism and Related Disabilities” and the University of Miami.
Jonathan’s ‘no fear’ attitude to life, taking every day as an adventure defines the spirit of this event.
“It’s a special day for kids that have autism,” he believes. It is this attitude, that makes children with autism be so much more than their disability.
Melinda Mizrachi, his mother, is a member of the board with UM-NSU CARD, a non-profit organization which helps autistic families in South Florida.
, says Melinda.
The event not only arranged for the children to have a day of fun, but also arranged for the families to meet the resources available for their children.
Mike Cugno – CBS4 sports anchor along with Miami Heat announcer Michael Baiamonte co-anchored the program.
Many fun filled activities like food trucks, music, demonstration, photo galleries, and the artistic traits of the kids were showcased during the event.
